Storyline

June 1812. Led by Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France, the largest army ever assembled in Europe crossed the Neman River, advancing on Moscow: half a million men. This was the start of the Russian Campaign.

The first episode evokes the crossing of the Neman River by the Grande Armée, retrace the invasion and destruction of the city of Smolensk, and the terrible Battle of Borodino, a bitter defeat for the Russians… The second episode first tells of the Grande Armée‘s stay in the « city of a hundred domes ». Napoleon, convinced that Alexander would capitulate, lingered in the city, but the czar rejected all offers of an armistice! Soon the Grande Armée would have no other choice than to retreat…
